Hey, you!

I’m Lacey Stone, celebrity trainer and creator of the Comeback Camps, a series of mind/body transforming programs designed to kick your fitness into high gear. You may have seen me on The Doctors, Good Morning America or Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian, or maybe you work out with me on my virtual training platform or get training tips from me on Instagram. My passion is bringing fitness and wellness to people everywhere!

Over the years, I’ve seen so many people struggle to find the coach who is right for them. Let’s face it, trainers are not one-size fits all.

So I want to share with you guys my top 5 tips for finding the fitness pro who is going to help you succeed in reaching your goals. (Who doesn’t love a good list?!)

1. Look for a trainer or coach someone who can empathize with your struggles.

A trainer who lacks empathy is unlikely to help you succeed in the long game. They don’t need to have experienced the exact same things you have in the exact same way, but they should be able to put themselves in your shoes and understand where you’re coming from. You want to feel inspired and motivated as you work together. You can often find this type of trainer by referral.

2. Seek out a trainer who practices what they preach and has the credentials to back it up.

There’s been an uprising of “Instagram fitness models” in the last several years, but not all of these folks (who are admittedly in great physical shape) have the expertise or training to help you get where you want to be. The importance of accreditation cannot be overlooked.

3. Look for a coach who makes you feel like you belong.

In my method, I primarily train my clients in a non-transient group setting. My mission in everything I do is to make my team believe in themselves. Everyone belongs; I don’t care where you’re from or who you are. If you give me your best, you always win! There are lots of ways you can give your best…from focusing on your performance and giving everything you have to being accountable to your teammates and holding them accountable. This method has been proven in numerous studies to accelerate results, and it also subconsciously brings everyone else up around you—which is a double win.

4. Speaking of accountability, find a trainer who will hold you to your commitment.

It goes beyond just when you’re there working out in front of them to when you’re outside the gym as well. One way my LSF team is consistently winning right now is by working together to cut out what’s holding them back and fueling their minds and bodies with what they need to be NEXT LEVEL—including in the nutrition department. We’ve found that ONE Bars help us do just that! It’s my favorite protein bar out there and is the number-one munchable I refer my squad to try when they’re looking for high-protein snack without all of the sugar to supplement my (super hard!!) workouts. PLUS, ONE Bar is all about community and team building like the Stone Squad is, and a shared mission will always get you to your goals faster.

5. Ask yourself if you’re getting the change and improvements you’re looking for.

After working with someone for a while, you’ll know if you’re heading in the right direction. And be honest with yourself—if you aren’t following the program the trainer has set up for you as they’ve set it up, is the problem the trainer or yourself? Before hopscotching to someone else, take a minute to evaluate what you can do better on your end. Give that a shot, and if you’re still not getting results, it may be time to move on.

Finding the right coach for you should be a fun process that will have lifelong positive effects.

I encourage you to get started by getting out there and meeting people one-on-one at fitness events. You can grow your community at Fitbit Local, a Color Run or Wanderlust. (And you’ll get the chance to try the new Peanut Butter Cup ONE Bar while you’re there. Trust me, it’s bomb.) Tag at @One1Brands and me, @LaceyStoneFitness, with your fitness pals on Instagram so I can re-gram you and show everyone what real winners look like! And if you need more help finding the coach who’s right for you, I’m always here to help…

XO,
-Coach Lacey
